Oil Tanker Set Afloat in Georgia

Georgia, Tbilisi, 10 March / corr. Trend N. Kirtskhalia/ The Georgian transport workers accomplished a unique operation by setting oil tanker afloat in Batumi port. The Ukrainian specialists helped their Georgian counterparts to safely get tanker off, Irakli Taktakishvili, the head of the Transport Department of the Ministry of Economic Development of Georgia said.

The tanker under the Georgia flag was run aground in Makhinajuri 20 days ago.

The tanker could contaminate the land and the sea as there was 200 tons oil in it.

"As a result of the special operations the tanker was set afloat and was brought to Batumi port without leaking a letre of oil. Our specialists played a great role in this operation. Such a unique operation has not been carried out even in Russia," Taktakishvili said.

The tanker will be thoroughly repaired in Turkey.
