New State Program on Food Security Envisages Grain Production Rise in Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan, Baku, 26 August / Trend corr. S.Babayeva / The State program on reliable supplying Azerbaijani people with food products in 2008-2015, which was adopted at the Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev's decree, envisages increasing the grain-sown areas to 900,000 h in the country. It is planned to increase grain production to 2.8mln tons, with productivity of 32 centric ton per hectare.

Rise in production of other agricultural products is also planned. It is expected to raise meat production to 340,000 tons, milk and milk products to 2.4mln tons, annual industrial production of poultry products to 80,000 tons (including 1.3bln unit of hen eggs), potato plants to 1.12mln tons, vegetable and watermelons 1.72mln tons, fruits 800,000 tons, sowing area of sugar beet to 20,000 h, tea leaves to 3,000 tons and high-quality balanced forage to 2mln tons a year.

Financial sources to carry out measures include the state budget, non-budget funds, local budgets, as well as local and foreign direct investment.

The State program targets to stimulate growth of agriculture production in Azerbaijan and to improve food supply of people through the local production in future.
