Third Azerbaijani-Jordanian business forum to take place in Amman

Azerbaijan, Baku, Feb.3 / Trend corr N. Ismayilova / An Azerbaijani-Jordan business forum will be held in Amman (Jordan) on Feb. 24-27, a source at the Azerbaijan Export and Investments Promotion Foundation said on Feb.3.

The organizers of the event are the Azerbaijani Ministry of Economic Development, AZPROMO and Jordanian Entrepreneurship Development Corporation (JEDCO).  

"Members from the Azerbaijani side in the forum are not currently defined but invitations have been released," the fund source said.  

The delegation will include governmental and company officials specialized in different spheres.

Jordan will be also presented by state officials and representatives of business circles of the country.

Meetings between Jordanian and Azerbaijani entrepreneurs will take place within the forum.

This is the third business forum between these countries. The first one was held in Baku in 2006 and the second in 2008 involving companies of construction, chemistry, food industry, health, agriculture and furnishings production visited Azerbaijan.

Diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Jordan were set up since 1993. The both sides are members of the Organization of Islamic Conference. The first intensive relations in the level of heads of state were set within this organization.

The first official visit of Azerbaijani president Ilham Aliyev to Jordan was made in July 2007. Thus, four documents were inked as a result of negotiations:

- cooperation program 2007-2009 in the sphere of education, science, culture, art, youth and sport and health;

- protocol on friendship and cooperation between Baku and Amman;

- protocol on establishment of bilateral commission on trade and economical and technical cooperation;

- document on establishment of Business Council of the two countries.

According to the results of 2008, the trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Jordan made up $424,100. This figure falls on importations.
