Uzbekistan to increase coal export 8 times

The Uzbek government intends to increase coal exports by 8.3 times, Uzbekugol General Director Hamrakul Hursanov said in an interview with the "Mountain Herald of Uzbekistan" magazine.

Coal exports are planned to increase to 50,000 tons before 2012 and kaolin rich coal to 24,000 tons.

Hursanov said the Uzbek government approved a program to modernize the coal industry for 2007-2012 in 2007. Measures to re-equip the Angeren and reconstruct the Apartak sections have been determined.

The project envisages a stage-by-stage increase of coal production up to 9.4 million tons per year owing to the development of Angren. Coal production will increase to 15 percent in 2010.

In 2008, coal production in Uzbekistan amounted to 3.29 million tons, the Uzbek State Statistics Committee told Trend . According to the committee, Uzbekcoal produced 3.5 million tons of coal in 2007.
