Azersun Holding commemorates 17th anniversary of occupation of Shusha

The Shusha State Musical and Drama Theatre held a commemoration of the 17th anniversary of occupation of Shusha city titled, Shusha is the mirror of my spirit" at the initiative of the Azersun Holding company. 

History, culture and art of the word of Shusha city was discussed at the ceremony. A mono performance of "A woman without a name", which was prepared by Shusha State Musical Drama Theater, was demonstrated. 

On May 8, 1992, Shusha became the victim of occupation policy of Armenia. 

Located in the Nagorno-Karabakh, Azerbaijani city of Shusha was occupied by the Armenians on May 8 in 1992. 

During the occupation of Shusha, 200 people became martyrs, 552 children - orphans, 150 people - disabled, about 22,000 people - refugees, 200 historic monuments, two sanatorium, houses of known representatives of art, tourist base for 70 people, schools for 1,200 were destructed and etc. 

Shusha, which is called "East Conservatory", is the land to several great singers, musicians, composers and conductors. Such great masters of art, as Jabbar Garyyagdyogli, Gurban Pirimov, Bulbul, Seyid Shusha, Khan Shushinski, Rashid Behbudov, Uzeyir Hacibayov, Niyazi, Suleyman Alaskarov.

Famous writers Suleiman Sani Akhundov, Abdulrahim bay Hagverdiev, Najaf bay Vazirov, poet Hurshudbanu Natavan, poet Gasim bay Zakir, painter Togrul Narimanbeyov, sculptor Jalal GaryagdI born in Shusha. 

Shusha was founded by Panah Ali Khan in 1751 as a fortress to protect the Karabakh khanate. Several times, during the endless feudal wars, Shusha has successfully been tested for durability. During the period of colonial rule of Russia, Shusha was developed and was administrative and economic center of the whole of Karabakh. For centuries, this city was the main political and cultural center of Azerbaijan, and its history is an integral part of Azerbaijan.
