Azerbaijan, Baku, August 17 / Trend D. Khatinoglu /
Turnover between Iran and Turkmenistan will increase in future taking into account economic potential of both countries, Iranian ambassador to Turkmenistan, Mohammadreza Forqani, said over phone from Ashgabat on August 17. Iranian ambassador said that economic cooperation between two countries develops more each year but bilateral turnover rapidly increases.
"The turnover hit $1.4 billion in 2006, $1.9 billion in 2007, but $3 billion in 2008," Forqani said.
Forqani said that major part of turnover consists of products imported by Iran from Turkmenistan. These products include oil, petrol, black oil, gas, liquefied gas, oil and chemical products, as well as cotton.
"Volume of export from Iran to Turkmenistan has also increased hitting $300 million in 2008," Forqani said.
According to statistics, Turkmenistan ranks the first place among Central Asian countries on the volume of turnover with Iran but the second place among former USSR countries after Russia.
