Azerbaijan has reported eight more cases of swine flu, the Azerbaijani Health Ministry said today.

"Three patients arrived from Ukraine and Turkey. They are Azerbaijani citizens. A foreign national from the UK and three other patients are Baku residents, who had been in contact with the patients infected in Ukraine," the ministry reported.

Two patients are in the hospital and the rest are undergoing outpatient treatment.

An Azerbaijani citizen was diagnosed with the A/H1N1 virus Nov. 4. The individual temporarily resides in Ukraine's Ivano-Frankivsk region, and returned to Kurdamir by rail Oct. 26. Two more cases of the swine flu were discovered the following day. One patient is a relative of the aforementioned patient. The second individual also arrived from Ukraine in November.

All medical facilities belonging to the Azerbaijani Health Ministry have upped their security due to the swine flu. The ministry has given instructions to medical personnel around the country to take preventive measures in their institutions and check all persons registered at each local clinic. According to the ministry, active measures are taken in children's clinics, schools and kindergartens.

The WHO has donated 300 million doses of a vaccine against the A/H1N1 virus to 90 countries, including Azerbaijan. The first shipment will be delivered to the country in November. Vaccination will be carried out among people at risk group.
