Azerbaijan, Baku, Jan.13 / Trend , U.Ismayilova /

A metallurgical complex with ore production capacity of five million tons annually and steel production of one million tons, will be built in Azerbaijan, the former head of the Azerbaijan ore mining plant, independent expert Ugur Hasanov said to an interview to the "Xalg Gazeti" newspaper.

For this firstly it needs to establish Dashkesen complex for extraction and purification of the ore for the production of iron concentrate, purified to 65-67 percent. In addition, it is necessary to build a steel mill, the facility for the production of pellet and production facility for the production of iron with 92-95 percent porous content in Ganja.

Hasanov said that all three facilities can be built and commissioned in a short time, however the establishment of the basic source of raw materials - Dashkesan complex for the extraction and purification of ore, is a long process.

The expert believes that capacity of existing infrastructure and relief of Dashkesan fields makes it difficult to complete the operations in a short time. That is why firstly it is necessary to resolve placement of wastes received as a result of ore purification, substantial reconstruction of water supply system and tunnel economy.

According to him, in connection with unsolved questions the preservation of the annual amount of ore extraction at the level of five million tons is unrealistic.

Hasanov said that local experts have already prepared a preliminary alternative feasibility study for an optimum metallurgical complex on the basis of Dashkesan's ore. This project is based on recent advances in ferrous metallurgy and local conditions, so it can give the country a larger economic effect, as well as to save public funds.

Annual demand of industry and Azerbaijan's construction sector for the steel products sphere exceeds one million tons. At present, local enterprises get 30-35 percent of this amount through the alloy scrap, and small shops by generation.

The capacity of all enterprises in Azerbaijan for the production of steel products from scrap metal has reached 700,000 tons over the past three years. Hasanov said that the reserves of scrap metal in the country decease from year to year. Recently, due to lack of scrap some enterprises stand idle, and operate at the level of 50 percent of production capacity.
