Azerbaijan prepares for signing the agreements to avoid double taxation with 17 countries.

"The Azerbaijani Ministry of Taxes has significantly expanded the number of bilateral agreements to avoid double taxation," deputy tax minister Sahib Alakbarov said in an interview with Baku Worker newspaper. "At present, these agreements have been signed with 41 countries. The agreements with other 17 countries are under ratification."

He said that one of the priorities of the ministry is the integration of Azerbaijani tax administration in the global tax system.

Azerbaijan is an active member of the European Organization of Tax Administrations (IOTA), the Coordination Council of Heads of CIS Tax Services, the Coordinating Council of Investigation Bodies.

The international workshops, conferences and other events are held in Baku under the auspices of these organizations, he said.

The next meeting of the Coordination Council of Heads of CIS Tax Services will take place in Baku in the middle of next year.

"The Ministry of Taxes has been successfully implementing the action plan adopted within the European Neighborhood Policy in Europe," he said. "We are constantly improving our country's tax legislation to bring it into line with European standards."
