Georgia and Azerbaijan will sign an agreement providing for the simplification of customs procedures, head of the Department of International Relations of the Customs Service of Georgia Samson Uridia told Trend in Baku.

"The essence of the agreement lies in the fact that we want to identify parallel customs procedures that apply when going from one country to another and help reduce their numbers. For example, if we pass the declaration of the goods first, then control during departure and at the same at the entrance to Azerbaijan, then some process can be terminated in the chain. For example, the parties may agree to make the declaration at the exit only and the control while entering the country or vice versa," Uridia said. He added that it will be a great relief for entrepreneurs.

"We can send the declared data electronically to the Customs Committee of Azerbaijan in accordance with the agreement. This data will have the same legal status as in Georgia only the control is implemented in Azerbaijan," Uridia said.

"We have already started a pilot project with Turkey, so it has moved from theory to practice which will become mandatory for Turkey and Georgia in the near future" Uridia said. He noted that the Georgian side submitted a draft agreement to Azerbaijan and the matter is under discussion.
