Turkmenistan expanding economic relations with Russian regions

Ashgabat hosted the first meeting of a joint working committee on trade and economic, scientific-technical and cultural collaboration between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Tatarstan of the Russian Federation, the organisers said on Friday.

Leaders and representatives of several state agencies including the leading ministries and departments of both countries participated at the event.

'The participants noted with satisfaction the effectiveness of the Turkmen-Tatar partnership which has received new quality content and stressed that there are many opportunities for the successful implementation of its potential', the statement said.

Plans for joint initiatives in such areas as trade, fuel and energy, agriculture, transport, machine building, shipbuilding and high-tech were discussed at the meeting.

The largest training and commercial service centre of KAMAZ in Central Asia is located in Ashgabat, since the total number of car models of the brand in Turkmenistan is more than 10,000.

The carmaker concern from Tatarstan sends various models and capacities to Ashgabat, designed for the transport of various goods and machinery under the KAMAZ brand. According to experts, all the car engines meet the latest requirements of the European Union's on economy and environmental safety.

KAMAZ also agreed to work on improving some of the modifications of its automobiles in view of the soil and climatic conditions of Turkmenistan.

Cooperation in the field of energy is developing with Tatneft and GC Turkmenneft signing an agreement in 2008. The subject of the service contract is the provision of services aimed at improving oil recovery of existing wells and further use of the potential oil production from the Goturdepe field. The terms of the contract is seven years.
