Uzbekistan, Tashkent, Aug. 1 / Trend D. Azizov /

From August 1, Uzbekistan prohibits foreign motor carriers from entering the country without proper authorisation, the State Customs Committee said with reference to the relevant decision of the government.

As reported earlier by Trend, in early July the government decided that from August 1, entry and transit of international vehicles in Uzbekistan will be carried out only in the presence and by special permission of the authorised state bodies of the republic.

To obtain the appropriate permissions, foreign transport companies must apply in advance to the Agency for Automobile and River Transport of the Republic.

Consideration of applications and issuance of permits forms will be in accordance with the national legislation of Uzbekistan and bilateral agreements.

Previously a permit to travel was issued directly on the border.

Prior to August 1, 2012 entry and transit through the territory of Uzbekistan for foreign motor carriers was carried out under the former scheme with payment of an entry fee.

From July 1, 2011 the entry fee and transit from foreign truck vehicles and buses crossing the border of Uzbekistan with Tajikistan is set at $265 for truck vehicles and buses of Tajikistan is $118.

For motor vehicles of Turkmenistan, going to Tajikistan, the rate for trucks with a carrying capacity of up to 10 tons and buses less than 12 seats is $35, trucks with carrying capacity of 10 tons and above and buses of 12 seats or more at $55.

The payment of additional fees for entry and transit from every foreign vehicle is in hard currency directly at the customs posts at checkpoints on the Uzbek-Tajik State border with transfer of funds received through the branches of Uzbek commercial banks to the account of the Republican Road Fund under the Ministry of Finance of the Republic.

An additional fee does not apply to vehicles of foreign countries with which Uzbekistan has concluded international agreements providing for non-use in relation of these vehicles of charges and fees for the use of roads.
