Azerbaijan’s monetary base up by nearly 20 percent

The monetary base in Azerbaijan during the first quarter of 2013 showed a steady increase, and as of April 1, the expanded monetary base in the country amounted to 10.280 billion manat, the statistical report of the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA) published on its website says.

Azerbaijan's monetary base during the first quarter of 2013 showed a steady increase, and as of April 1, the expanded monetary base in the country amounted to 10.280 billion manat, the statistical report of the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA) published on its website says.

According to the CBA, the monetary base increased on an annualized basis by 21.4 percent. For comparison, the figure was 8.468 billion manat in the first quarter of 2012.

According to the CBA, as of April 1, 2013, the monetary base in manat totaled 10.195 billion manat compared to 8.347 billion manat on April 1, 2012.

During the reporting period, the volume of money in circulation amounted to 9.604 billion manat, while on April 1, 2012 this figure stood at 7.650 billion manat.

In turn, the bank reserves amounted to 656.6 million manat, or 18.44 percent less than in the first quarter of 2012 (805.1 million manat).

The weight ratio of cash in circulation to the monetary base was 93.4 percent as of April 1, 2013 compared to 90.3 percent by April 1, 2012.

The official exchange rate on May 11 is 0.7845 AZN / USD.
