Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Christine Lagarde has expressed regret that she cannot take part in the conference of WB and IMF parliamentary networks being held in Baku and also thanked the Azerbaijani leadership for its hospitality.

Lagarde's video message was presented within the conference.

"Our cooperation with parliamentarians is a continuous process," she said. "I think MPs are a very important element of international cooperation because they were elected by people and they actually represent the whole country. They understand the concerns of people. That's why we try to regularly meet with MPs, to establish and develop our cooperation. This plays a very important role in solving global economic problems."

The Parliamentary Network is an independent non-governmental organisation delivering a platform to more than 1500 parliamentarians from 140 countries for cooperation to increase transparency and enhance accountability in the development processes in their countries. The objective of the organisation is to enhance the role of parliamentarians and civil society.

The non-governmental organisation Association for Civil Society Development in Azerbaijan is an organiser of the conference from the Azerbaijani side.
