By Fatih Karimov - Trend: The unemployment rate among Iranian women of 15-24 years old hit 9-year high in summer, the Mehr News Agency reported on November 17.

The unemployment rate hit 46 percent in summer.

According to the official statistics, over 4.3 million women work in the Iranian job market.

On November 5 ISNA reported that about 70 percent of Iranian employed women work in agricultural and service sectors.

Some 49.8 percent of the employed women work in the service sector and some 25 percent work in the agricultural sector.

About 46 percent of the total employed population work in the service sector, about 34 percent work in the industrial sector, and about 20 percent work in the agricultural sector.

The number of unemployed people in Iran has decreased by around 400,000 in the first half of the current Iranian calendar year, which began on March 21, compared to the past six months.

Some 2.95 million people were unemployed in the country at the end of the past Iranian calendar year, but the figure has decreased to 2.556 million, according to the Statistical Center of Iran.

However, unemployment has increased among women and the youth.

In August, the Mehr News Agency quoted Iranian Finance and Economic Affairs Minister Ali Tayyebnia as saying that Iran will face around 8.5 million of unemployed people in the near future.

For the time being, some 3.5 people are jobless in the country, he said, adding that the figure will soar to 8.5 million, because a large number of educated youth will be graduated from universities soon and will look for jobs.
