French company to participate in tender for construction of second Azerbaijani satellite

France's Airbus Defence and Space (Astrium) company intends to take part in tenders for construction of the first low-orbit satellite and the second telecommunication satellite of Azerbaijan, the director for export in the sphere of navigation of terrestrial observation and science of Airbus Defence and Space G.Limousin told journalists on Feb.1.

Alongside with the construction, the company also offers services for training Azerbaijani specialists in satellite control sphere, according to the director.

The first telecommunication satellite of Azerbaijan Azerspace/Africasat-1a was launched into orbit in February, 2013.

U.S. firm Orbital Sciences Corporation is the producer of Azerspace/Africasat-1a satellite.

Azerbaijan's telecommunications satellite Azerspace/Africasat-1a is designed to provide digital broadcasting, Internet access, data transmission and the creation of VSAT multiservice networks and governmental communications. Eastern Europe, the Caucasus, Central Asia and North Africa are included in the service area of Azerspace/Africasat-1a.

Azerspace/Africasat-1a satellite was launched into the orbit by the Ariane 5 ECA launcher part of the French Arianespace company.
