Kazakhstan Railways see growth in cargo turnover

The cargo transshipment through the network of JSC National Company "Kazakhstan Temir Zholy" (Kazakhstan Railways) in January 2018 amounted to 19.8 million tons, the company said in a message on Feb.6.

The company reported that over one million tons of grain was transported during this period, which is by 65 percent higher than in January 2017, and exceeds the plan by 8 percent. In turn, the volume of transported flour amounted to about 400,000 tons, which is twice as much as in the same period last year and 38 percent higher than the forecast target.

In January, coal transportation amounted to 8.9 million tons, which is by 0.2 percent more than in January 2017.

Transportation of oil and petroleum products in the reported period amounted to 1.6 million tons, which is by 5 percent higher than the same period in 2017, iron ore - 1.9 million tons, which is 8 percent more than in January 2017.

In general, exports showed the greatest growth dynamics in January. The volume of cargo transportation in the export direction increased by 2 percent compared to the same period last year. The highest growth was registered at border crossings with China (32 percent) and Uzbekistan (81 percent).

The import shipments compared to the indicators of January 2017 increased by 13 percent. In particular, at border crossings with Russia (5 percent), China (62 percent), Uzbekistan (53 percent), Turkmenistan (50 percent), Kyrgyzstan (36 percent).

Since early 2018, 290 container trains have passed through Kazakhstan. The main growth in the volume of transit traffic was seen in the direction of Chengdu-Dostyk-Lodz.
