Turkmenistan to work out water management development program for 2018—2030, Turkmen State News agency reported.
The document is prepared according to the order of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.
According to the report, the head of state pointed out a number of actual tasks aimed to effectively operate available potential of state water management sector and promote improvement of activity in the sphere.
Implementation of modern irrigation methods, taking into account natural and climatic environment of the country, and advanced technologies on rational water use, expansion of land improvement are among the tasks mentioned.
Turkmenistan borders Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Iran and Afghanistan and uses water resources of the four transboundary rivers – Amudarya, Tejen, Atrek and Murghab – according to the quotas. The Aral problem has affected the north of Turkmenistan, in particular, Dashoguz region, where serious problems occurred associated with providing the population with clean drinking water and controlling salinization of tillable lands.
