A tender for construction of a high-speed railway in the central Turkish province of Kayseri will be announced March 28, the Ministry of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications of Turkey told Trend Feb. 26.
Preparations are also underway for construction of high-speed railways in the south-west of Turkey.
Presently, the length of high-speed railways in Turkey is 1,213 kilometers and construction of another 4,000 kilometers of railways continues.
Also, research is being conducted for construction of additional 5,000 kilometers of railways.
It is expected that the length of high-speed railways will be brought to 10,000 kilometers in the country until 2023.
Turkey’s first railway was built in Izmir province in 1860. Its length was 357 kilometers.
