Turkey announces date of new satellite launch

Turkish domestic satellite Turksat 5A will be placed into orbit in 2020, the Ministry of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications of Turkey told Trend July 23.

The ministry noted that the work on construction of the satellite is underway currently.

The ministry said the Turksat 6A satellite, the third domestic satellite, will be put into orbit in 2020.

"It is also expected that another domestic satellite, Turksat 5B, will be placed into orbit in 2021," the ministry said.

Turkey pays special attention to development of the space sector, the ministry noted.

Earlier, it was also reported that Turkey will create the first domestic carrier rocket BURAK.

The project of its creation is implemented within the government’s plan Vision 2023.

The first Turkish reconnaissance satellite RASAT was launched in 2011. Turkey launched the Gokturk 2 satellite from the Chinese Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center on December 18, 2012. Currently, the satellite is used for defense purposes.
