Iran’s deputy minister of roads and urban development says that by the end of this Iranian year (March 2019), five provinces will be connected to the rail network.
“The provinces of West Azerbaijan, East Azerbaijan, Kermanshah, Gilan and Hamedan will connect to the rail network by the end of this [Iranian] year,” Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development Khairullah Khademi told reporters Thursday, Trend reports citing IRNA.
He went on to say that the government will try to connect other provinces, including the Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari Province, to the rail network.
“Before the Islamic Revolution, there were only 4,556 kilometers of railroad tracks in the country, which during the last 40 years grew by more than 9,000 kilometers.”
“Now more than 13,000 kilometers of railroads are active in the country,” Khademi said.
