Cargo transportation up in Azerbaijan

Some 209.5 million tons of cargo were transported in Azerbaijan in January-November 2018, which is 1.5 percent more than in the same period of 2017, Trend reports referring the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee’s statement.

Of the total volume of goods transported in January-November, 65 percent of goods were transported by vehicles, 25.3 percent - by pipelines, 6 percent - by railway, 3.6 percent - by ships and 0.1 percent - by planes.

Some 1.8 billion people were carried by passenger transport in January-November 2018, which is 1.4 percent more than in the same period of 2017. The majority (88.2 percent) of the passengers were transported by vehicles, 11.6 percent - by metro, and the remainder - by other types of transport.

Some 12.6 million tons of cargo were carried by railway in January-November 2018, which is 4.2 percent less than in January-November 2017.

On average, the number of loaded railcars amounted to 338, unloaded - 413 per day. The average daily load of railcars in the northern direction of the railway amounted to 12,600 tons, in the western direction – 5,400 tons, in the southern direction – 800 tons.

Some 7.5 million tons of cargo were transported by ships during the reporting period, which is 0.6 percent more than in January-November 2017. Some 55.3 percent of the transported cargo fell on oil cargo. The volume of cargo handled in the ports of Azerbaijan in January-November amounted to 8.95 million tons.

Some 136.1 million tons of cargo were transported by vehicles during the reporting period, which exceeds the same figure in 2017 by 3 percent.

The volume of passenger transportation by vehicles for the reporting period amounted to 1.6 billion people (an increase of 1.4 percent compared to January-November 2017). Some 96 percent of the passengers were transported by buses, 4 percent - by motor vehicles.

The volume of passenger traffic by metro amounted to 209.8 million people, an increase of 1.1 percent compared to the same period in 2017.

Some 2.2 million passengers were transported by planes in the first eleven months of 2018, which is 2.3 percent more than in January-November 2017. Thus, 0.1 percent of transportation by this mode of transport fell on the private sector. Cargo transportation by planes increased by 19.7 percent and amounted to 183,200 tons for the year.
