Nomads in Iran’s Darrehshahr County produce 200 tons of wool each year

Nomads living in Darrehshahr County of Iran's western Ilam Province produce 200 tons of wool annually, Shoja Zeynivand, Director of the Darrehshahr County Department of Iran’s Nomadic Affairs Organization, told IRNA, Trend reports.

According to Zeynivand, the economic value of this wool is 10 billion rials ($238,000 per the official exchange rate, $66,600 in the black market).

Zeynivand added that there are about 170,000 goats in Darrehshahr.

"Creating wool spinning workshops in the region can also increase the employment of nomads," he said.

Zeynivand added that more than 10,000 tons of livestock, red meat, milk, wool and other products are produced annually by the nomads inhabiting the county.

More than 2,000 nomadic families live in Darrehshahr County of Iran's Ilam Province.
