Since the beginning of this Iranian year (started March 21, 2019), rice imports from Iran have increased by 10 percent, secretary of the Iran Rice Importers Association Masih Keshavarz said, Trend reports with reference to Mehr News Agency.

He said that during the reporting period, 710,000 tons of rice were imported.

He added that 70,000 tons of this volume was imported for the state’s strategic resources. “Taking into account the monthly consumption of about 120,000 tons of rice in Iran, there are about 150,000 tons of rice in the reserves,” he said.

He noted that about 100,000 tons of rice at the customs aren’t allowed to enter Iran for already two months.

Keshavarz added that if the rice imports decrease, the price of the local rice may grow.
