Minister: Iran intends to synchronize its power grid with Azerbaijan

Iran intends to synchronize its power grid with Azerbaijan, Iranian Energy Minister Reza Ardakanian said at a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister of Azerbaijan Shahin Mustafayev in Tehran, Trend reports with reference to the website of Iran's Energy Ministry.

Although there is currently connection and exchange of electricity between the two countries, the synchronization of the power grids is one of the major goals of energy exchange development, Ardakanian said.

Iran and Azerbaijan have very good infrastructures for the development of energy barter cooperation, and these infrastructures need to be discussed at panels with the participation of experts and reached conclusions should be implemented, the Iranian energy minister added.

During the meeting, Shahin Mustafayev also commented on the relations between the two countries.

Over the past four years, the presidents of Azerbaijan and Iran have held 12 meetings, which resulted in the signing of important cooperation documents, Mustafayev said.

Noting that the trade turnover between the two countries have increased three times, the Azerbaijani deputy PM said that according to estimates, the number of Iranian companies operating in Azerbaijan have also increased by 50 percent.

During the meeting, the sides discussed issues related to the continuation of the agreement on Iran's electricity imports from Azerbaijan in the coming summer and the transit of Azerbaijani electricity to the countries of the region.

The sides also decided to set up a joint working group to investigate the energy barter between the two countries and develop an economic model to continue this cooperation.
