Iran aims to boost export of mineral products

TEHRAN, Iran, June 3

Trend:

Iran has targeted export of mineral products valued $10.5 billion in current Iranian year (started March 20, 2020), said the Acting Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade.

"The policy of the ministry is to boost export and increase the added value of mine products," said Hossein Modares Khyabani, Trend reports citing IRNA.

"As Iran's economy has become less dependent on oil revenues since 2019, the foreign currency revenues from export of mine and mineral products helped to supply foreign currency sources," he added. "Today, despite the difficult situation, all major development projects in mine sector are underway."

"Re-activating country's small mines is a priority for the ministry, which will also supported export operations in the current Iranian year [started March 20, 2020] given that it is the year of production leap," the official said. "Evaluation of mine permits is on the agenda, while the ministry is developing systems to create transparency in the process of issuing permits for mines."

"Supplying equipment required in the mine sector and assigning mine exploration to qualified individuals are among other main objectives," he added.

Iran has 5,600 active mines that annually produce 400 million tons of mineral materials, 60 percent of these products are construction materials.
