Iran resumes export to Turkmenistan

TEHRAN, Iran, Oct.15

Trend:

Iran has transited export goods by 187 trailers via its Sarakhs border with Turkmenistan since September 7, said the head of transit department in Khorasan Razavi Province.

"Three trailers have exported goods to Turkmenistan while the rest were transited through the country. About 90 percent of cargo was loaded from Iran's southern ports that transported to Turkmenistan," said Hamid Mohammadi, Trend reports citing IRNA.

"Based on agreements between the two countries, Iranian cargo trucks would transit goods via connecting border bridge to Turkmenistan and would unload cargo to Turkmen trucks to deliver them to the destination country," he said.

"Turkmenistan is currently moving cargo with its own neighbors including Uzbekistan with the same method," he said.

"Iran and Turkmenistan border has remained closed for more than six months due COVID-19, and on September 7 Turkmenistan reopened its border for testing trade with Iran," he said.

"So far Turkmenistan has launched three trial trades with Iran for various durations of 3,10 and 20 days, but it wasn't announced when these trial periods would end and we'd have the results,"," he added.
