IMF sets conservative forecast for Georgia's economic growth, says Georgian Economy Minister

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Nov. 11

By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) mission assesses that the Georgian government has taken very effective anti-pandemic, social and anti-crisis measures that have allowed us, on the one hand, to fight the epidemic, and on the other, to help the population, said Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Natia Turnava, Trend reports via Georgian media.

She made the remark commenting on the assessment of the IMF mission in connection with the completion of the seventh program review supported by the expanded funding mechanism.

“First of all, it is very important that the International Monetary Fund supports us. The smooth execution of the program on the right basis was the precondition that we were able to very quickly mobilize international assistance when the country needed it most. With regard to the forecast for next year, the IMF expects that we will continue structural reforms, strengthen the private sector and as a result we will have economic growth,” the minister said.

According to Turnava, the IMF has set a conservative forecast for Georgia's economic growth by 2021.
