Azerbaijan exported hazelnuts worth $116.3 million in 2020, Ismayil Orujov, Chairman of the Azerbaijan Hazelnut Producers and Exporters Association, told Trend.
According to Orujov, the volume of exports of hazelnuts last year amounted to 18,892 tons.
The association has carried out large-scale measures in the country to combat pests of agricultural crops, calling on farmers to actively participate, Orujov said.
“More and more land is allocated for the cultivation of hazelnuts, and it is now important to fully create a mechanism for cooling products and sending them for export. In the coming years, it is planned to increase the volume of the harvest,” he said.
The revenues from the hazelnut export in 2019 amounted to $125 million. The domestic market demand for 2019 was at the level of 1,500-2,000 tons, which is 10 percent of the total.
The Azerbaijan Hazelnut Producers and Exporters Association was registered at the Azerbaijani Ministry of Justice on October 31, 2016.
