Iran’s GTC sees increase in volume of wheat sold to flour factories

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Nov. 18

By Elnur Baghishov – Trend:

The volume of flour sold by the Iranian Government Trade Corporation (GTC) to flour factories for about the first 8 months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through November 21, 2021), increased by 8.4 percent, compared to the same period last Iranian year, Deputy Director of the GTC, Hassan Hannan said, Trend reports citing the corporation’s website.

According to Hannan, the GTC has sold more than 7 million tons of wheat to flour factories for the reporting period. As a result, the necessary volume of flour was supplied to the bakeries and related facilities.

The deputy also added that this season, a total of 4.5 million tons of wheat have been purchased from farmers in Iran for 50,000 rials (about $1.19) per kilogram. The drought this year has also had a negative impact on wheat cultivation. So, the volume of harvested wheat has decreased.

“In addition, about 4 million tons of wheat have been imported into the country since April 21, 2021. Of this, 3 million tons have already delivered to the country in the specified directions, and the rest volume is being delivered,” he said.

As reported, wheat has been planted on 6.15 million hectares of land in the current Iranian year. This is an increase of 2.3 percent compared to the last Iranian year (from March 20, 2020, through March 20, 2021).

The guaranteed purchase of wheat from farmers in Iran will continue until November 21, 2021.

A number of products, including wheat, tea, rice, and other products are purchased from farmers by GTC under a guarantee in Iran.
