BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 26. In total, 416 tons of bony fish worth 670 billion rials (about $15.9 million) were caught in the Caspian Sea in Iran’s Mazandaran Province, during 44 days (October 9 through November 21, 2022), Director General of the Iran Fisheries Organization for Mazandaran Province Ghasem Karimzadeh said, Trend reports citing the organization’s website.

According to Karimzadeh, this is an increase of 55 percent in value, while a decrease of 18 percent in volume compared to the same period last Iranian year.

“Of the mentioned volume, 60 percent was accounted for mullet, 20 percent for carp, and 20 percent for Caspian kutum,” he added.

Generally, 50 fishing companies and about 4,000 fishermen work in the province. Fishing has a fundamental role in the income and livelihood of the population in Mazandaran Province.
