Toyota would consider alliance, if Ford asks first

(autoinsidernews) - After last month's meeting between Ford CEO Alan Mulally, Ford's president of the Americas, Mark Fields, and Toyota executives, including company chairman Fujio Cho, rumors began about a possible alliance between the two companies, a la the failed GM-Nissan-Renault alliance. Both Ford and Toyota have said the meeting was simply a get-acquainted meeting, reports Trend.

However, Toyota would consider a broader partnership with Ford if approached by the U.S. automaker, Toyota President Katsuaki Watanabe told Japan's Nikkei business daily. Watanabe said an alliance would likely focus on technological development, but he said talks have not taken place yet.
