BP Resumes Oil Production in West Part of Azeri Field in   Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan, Baku, 10 October / Trend corr. S.Aliyev/BP company is the operator of the project on full-scale development of the Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli field, resumed the oil production in the west part of the Azeri field, which was suspended in the mid of September due to gas spark, said BP-Azerbaijan.

The platform was supplied with energy from the east part of the field.

Suspension of two platforms -'Central Azeri' and 'West Azeri' has caused drop in oil production in Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli field dropped to 580,000 barrels of oil per day against 900,000 barrels before suspension.

At present, the true reasons of gas spark are being investigated by BP. The results of the investigation are being analyzed in London.

If everything is normal with the production in West Azeri, platform in the central part of the field also will be put into operation gradually, a source said

On 17 September, BP suspended production in Central Azeri field and evacuated personnel because of the gas spark detected near platform. Production in a platform in western part of Azeri field had been suspended for security reasons. The production in the platform installed in east part of Azeri field continues.

Azeri Light brand of oil produced from Azeri- Chiraq-Guneshli field is exported through Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline.
