SOCAR to Prepare to Complete Investigation in Perspective Offshore Gas Well

Azerbaijan, Baku, 19 November/ Trend , corr. E.Ismayilov /Administration of geophysics and geology of SOCAR company (Azerbaijan State Oil Company) will complete prospecting geophysical work in Bahar-2 prospective gas field, SOCAR said. Two-dimensional and three-dimensional geophysics investigation is being held in the area. The volume of reserves will be defined after receiving of geophysics data.

The Bahar-1 field, which reserves have been considerably developed, is a unique field. In the 80s of the last century, the field produced 16-17mln cu m of natural gas, which provided 30-40% of the country's gas demand. SOCAR develops Bahar-1 independently. SOCAR is engaged in gas production in Azerbaijan and produces fuel from the field through its own funds.

Gas is extracted from the Shah Daniz field by foreign partners with assistance of SOCAR under BP 's technical operator ship. Gas is supplied to Azerbaijani market and exported to Georgia and Turkey via South Caucasian gas pipe line. Azerbaijan also receives associated gas, which is produced by the Azerbaijan International Operating Company from the Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli field.
