Azerbaijan, Baku, Feb.2 / Trend / In 2008, SOCAR (State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic) utilized about 17.3 million cubic meters of gas producing greenhouse effect (especially carbonic gas and methane) in the sections of oil and gas production unit "Oil Rocks" within the Kyoto protocol, a source in the Ecology Office of SOCAR said on Feb.2.
About 90 percent of associated gas produced from the fields consists of methane.
As many as 9.3 million cubic meters of the totally utilized gas fell on area 1517 wherein four vacuum compressors were installed. Other 8.2 million cubic meters of gas fell on area 2192 wherein three compressors were installed.
Also six vacuum compressors were installed in area 2164 to utilize associated gas in offshore Oil Rocks and about 31 million cubic meters of gas per year was utilized. In 2006-2007, three compressors were installed in area 2181 and 10 million cubic meters of gas per year was utilized.
Utilization of associated gas will be continued, the source said.
Kyoto protocol was inked in 1997 aimed to bring the volume of gas producing greenhouse effect to the level which doesn't affect the climate in the earth. Azerbaijan ratified the protocol in 2000.
