Full-scale production of the sorbent may be launched in Azerbaijan within a month, Soltan Aliyev, head of Ekol muhendislik xidmetleri(engineering services) closed joint stock company, said.

The Azerbaijani Ekol muhendislik xidmetleri CJSC and Uzbek Uzbekneftgaz national holding company are the participants of the Uzbek-Azerbaijani alliance.

"A test lot of products have been manufactured. I believe the full-scale production will begin next month," Aliyev said.

According to Aliyev, currently the procurement of raw materials needed for production of sorbent is under consideration. It is possible to buy raw materials from different countries. At present, the Uzbek side is in negotiations. "Most likely [raw material] will be imported from the Eastern Asia or from China or Vietnam," Aliyev added.

Production will be carried out in accordance with the demand and the volume of production will fluctuate in accordance with these orders, Aliyev said.

The Azerbaijani Ekol muhendislik xidmetleri CJSC and Uzbek Uzbekneftgaz national holding company signed a contract on creation of joint venture for production of sorbent in late February.

Under the terms of the contract, the equipment for the production of the sorbent was brought from Uzbekistan and installed in the production area of the company. The equipment is a licensed equipment of the Uzbek Ekonordragmet company. Under the alliance, the Uzbek company must brought and install all necessary equipment. The capacity of the plant for the production of sorbent is 30 kilograms of product per hour.

Sorbent is a very effective mean to clean the polluted land and water impurities from oil. Ekol will use the sorbent to remove impurities from the oil production areas, artificial reservoirs and contaminated land of its customers, which in turn will increase significantly the economic and ecological productivity of the ecological projects implemented by the company.

Ekol Muhendislik Xidmetleri was co-founded in March 2006 to solve ecological problems in Absheron by: SOCAR (51 percent) and Lancer S.A. Services (49 percent).

The Uzbek-British joint venture Ekonordragmet was founded and registered by the Uzbek Justice Ministry on Feb. 15, 2006.
