Over 175 million tons of oil extracted from Oil Rocks within 60 years: SOCAR

Daily oil extraction at the department of oil and gas production Oil Rocks (it includes the field of the same name and the field Mud Volcano) hits 2,480 tons, deputy head of the department Matlab Bahirov said during a press-tour of journalists at Oil Rocks organized by SOCAR within the 60-th anniversary of extraction at this field.

Bahirov said that about 175 million tons of oil have been extracted at this field.

Daily gas extraction of the department hits 920,000 cubic meters. This index will be increased up to 1 million cubic meters per day by late 2009, Bahirov said.

The volume of oil extraction at Oil Rocks must be increased up to 1.2 million tons of oil (1.5 times) per year upon the Azerbaijani President's decree.

SOCAR's geologists said that permanent oil volumes hit 30 million tons at the filed Oil Rocks. 

SOCAR will drill 78 new wells to increase oil extraction at this field by 2010.
