France views Turkmenistan as a key partner to maintain energy security in Europe, French President Nicolas Sarkozy said in his message addressed to his Turkmen Counterpart Gurbangulu Berdimuhammedov.

"I consider your country as a key partner for peace in the region and Europe's energy security," the message says. "I regard the Central Asia region as strategic and development of our relations - as necessity, since the key issues of international peace and security is being solved here."

The French president noted that Berdimuhammedov's Paris visit scheduled for February, "will be a key milestone in the history of the French-Turkmen relations, which in his opinion," would provide an opportunity to enhance mutual understanding and strengthen long-term partnership."

"I appraise political and cultural agreements to be signed during your Paris visit, as they will strengthen our future relations in all spheres," the message says.

Sarkozy said that he supports French companies' desire to continue and build business partnerships on several projects, the negotiations on which are underway with Turkmenistan.

visited Ashgabat to discuss preparations for Berdimuhamedov's visit.
