KazMunayGas has completed factory automation and operations integration at an operational management center at the Petromidia platform through Rompetrol Petrochemicals.

"The integration of automated control over petrochemical plants in the control center supports the company's goal of becoming one of the major polymer suppliers and producers in the region," Rompetrol Petrochemicals General Manager Niculi Dimitru said. "Investments amounting to more than $107 million have been made from 2002 until today to expand our special activities, production capacity, quality and product range."

According to the company's press service, the project's total cost to integrate local systems into a new control center runs about $500,000. Rompetrol Petrochemicals invested $30 million in 2006-2007 to restart and modernize refineries to produce low-density polyethylene, as well as an additional $14.5 million to produce high-density polyethylene.

"The new center provides control and protection technological schemes and technological data collection and transmission in real-time," he said. "It also indirectly reduces production costs. This is the first center in Romania, as well as in southeastern Europe."

According to the company, Rompetrol Petrochemicals plans to increase the installation's productivity for low-density polyethylene production worth more than 70 percent by late 2011. However, the total investments have been estimated at about $ 18 million. The company's fixed turnover is $214.2 million, with an operating income of $11.5 million over the first nine months of this year. This is more than the figure for the same period in 2009. The company's turnover amounted to $181 million, with a negative operating result of $12.5 million.
