Over 4 billion cubic meters of sour gas from South Pars field phases 6, 7, 8 was sweetened in Bidboland and Fajr Jam refineries over the last Iranian year (March 21, 2010-March 20, 2011), PANA reported quoting the Production Supervision Manager at National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) Mehdi Jamshidi Dana as saying.
According to Jamshidi Dana, Iran has boosted its gas refining capacity to over 500 million cubic meters per day last year (ended March20, 2011).
Jamshidi Dana said the rise resulted after the country increased refining capacities at Bidboland and Fajr Jam refineries.
Iran has taken proper measures and steps to increase its share in the international trade of natural gas, Jamshidi Dana noted.
Iranian Deputy Minister of Economic Affairs and Finance Behrouz Alishiri said last month that the country's astonishing progress in building oil refineries, and Iran ranks the third among the world countries in increasing refining capacities.
"Iran is the fourth oil producer, has the second largest gas reserves and ranks the third in boosting its refining capacity in world," Alishiri said.
"Iran is one of the most powerful countries in the oil, gas and petrochemical sectors and has huge capacities for private sector investments," Alishiri added.
The South Pars gas field is jointly owned by Iran and Qatar. The Iranian share of the field has reserves of about 14 trillion cubic meters (46.2 trillion cubic feet) of gas, which accounts for about eight percent of total world reserves.
