Azerbaijan, Baku, Nov. 22 / Trend E. Ismayilov /

The volume of emissions into the atmosphere, creating a greenhouse effect, is 52.5 million tons of carbon dioxide in Azerbaijan, director of climate change and ozone center under the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources Gulmali Suleymanov said at a conference on "Energy Efficiency: economic and institutional aspects and perspectives" on Wednesday.

"This hits around 0.1 percent of global gas emissions into atmosphere," Suleymanov said.

He said that Azerbaijan's GDP grew by 6-7 times for the last 10 years, but the volume of emissions into the atmosphere, creating a greenhouse effect, stabilized at around 45-50 million tons per year.

He added that fuel economy is a part of ensuring the energy efficiency. This means obtaining additional revenue and reducing emissions of harmful gases to the atmosphere. This positively affects the quality of life and health of the population.

Improving the standard of living is also important within increasing the energy efficiency. This allows it to purchase equipment for a more efficient use of electric power.
