Azerbaijan, Baku, Nov 21 /Trend E.Ismayilov/
Azerbaijan plans to introduce tariffs for electricity produced from renewable and alternative sources that will exceed the wholesale price of electricity existing in the country today.
"Higher tariffs for alternative energy will not affect the retail price of electricity in Azerbaijan," representative of state-owned company on alternative and renewable energy Jamil Melikov told Trend.
There is a retail electricity tariff in the amount of 0.06 ($0,076) per kilowatt / hour at wholesale price no higher than 0.04 manat ($ 0.05) during the 5 years.
Melikov said the first alternative energy, which will be received from a hybrid power plant, established in Gobustan region of Azerbaijan (72 km from Baku), will be used at the current tariff in the country today.
"Electricity transmission to energy operators and consumers will be made on the basis of the tariffs for wholesale and retail sale of electricity, respectively," Melikov said.
The bill on alternative and renewable energy sources, which is currently being considered by the Cabinet of Ministers, provides the method of formation of tariffs for different types of renewable energy.
The bill provides the way how to calculate the rate of renewable energy, and it will be different for different types of energy.
"Tariffs for sale of electricity produced from alternative sources will remain at current levels for consumers and the prices at which it will be transferred to the operator is being discussed," Melikov said.
The introduction of various government grants and subsidies for producers of alternative energy is required in this regard. As for the wholesale rate on alternative energy, it will be determined by the Tariff Council countries.
