The second exploration well at Iran's Sardar Jangal field, located in the Caspian Sea, has reached 2664 meters in depth.
The exploration director at Khazar Oil Company, Yousef Etemadi said on April 8 that it is possible that new hydrocarbon reserves will be found in the new layers of the sea, Iran's Shana news agency reported.
Etemadi added that the second well is projected to hit 4022 meters in depth.
On March 2, Etemadi said that oil was discovered at depth of 2440 meters on the second exploration well.
According to Etemadi, exploration drilling on "Sardar Jangal" field will be completed till June 2014.
"Our goal is getting oil from the depth of 4022 meters, and we hope to get more oil from deep reserves. We will try to get 20,000 barrels of oil from the field in the next 4-5 years," he said.
Iran conducts exploration works on different blocks according to the priority and now drilling is going on the eastern side of the field, he added.
According to the latest announcement, Iran's Oil Ministry claimed that the Sardar Jangal field's discovered oil and gas layers hold in total two billion barrels of light crude oil alongside with 50 trillion cubic foots of gas reserves (equals to 1.4 trillion cubic meters).
