Uzbekistan adopts "road map" on energy sector upgrade

President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev approved a "road map" to increase generating capacity, modernize electric networks, improve system for accounting and control of electricity consumption in 2018-2020, Uzbek media reported.

As part of the "road map", seven investment projects will be implemented in Uzbekistan to modernize existing and introduce new generating capacities. The $2.6-billion project will result in production of 1,984 megawatts of electricity.

Reconstruction of existing and construction of new electrical networks will end up with total line length of 7,100 kilometers. Some 2,500 transforming stations will be installed and upgraded using attracted loans and own funds of Uzbekenergo.

According to the document, 7 million consumers will be connected to the Automated System for Accounting and Control of Electricity Consumption (AEMS), and by the end of 2021 the AEMS will cover 100 percent of the total number of subscribers.
