Azerbaijan increases gas production by 18.8%

Azerbaijan produced 23.1 billion cubic meters of gas over eight months of the current year, which is 18.8 percent more than during the same period of the previous year, Azerbaijani Minister of Energy Parviz Shahbazov said at a press conference at the headquarters of the ruling New Azerbaijan Party, Trend reports.

During the reporting period, gas exports amounted to 7.2 billion cubic meters (increase of 26.3 percent).

Overall, more than 2.5 billion cubic meters of gas have been transported to Turkey via the TANAP gas pipeline to date.

According to forecasts, gas production will increase by 19 percent (5.8 billion cubic meters) by the end of 2019 compared with the previous year, while exports will increase by 25 percent. Production will amount to 40.2 billion cubic meters in 2020, and to 45 billion cubic meters in 2021.

Shahbazov noted that the Shahdeniz field has produced 110.8 billion cubic meters of gas and 26.8 million tons of condensates since its commissioning. Meanwhile, 73.7 billion cubic meters of gas were exported.

He went on to say that in January-August 2019, Shahdeniz field accounted for 10.9 billion cubic meters of gas and 2.3 million tons of condensates.

According to Shahbazov, 5.7 billion cubic meters of gas were exported to Turkey during this period, which is 33.8 percent more than the same period last year.

It is expected to increase gas production at the Shahdeniz field by 6 billion cubic meters of gas in 2019 compared to the previous year, 8.5 billion cubic meters in 2020, and 12 billion cubic meters in 2021, reaching 23 billion cubic meters.

The minister also said that gas consumption will amount to more than 14 billion cubic meters in 2019 and 2020. In 2018, this figure stood at 12.6 billion cubic meters.
