By Leman Zeynalova – Trend:

It is planned to expand the activities of the Caspian Innovation Center (CIC), the joint venture of Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR and US-based IBM Corporation beyond SOCAR in 2020, Ibrahim Ahmadov, deputy head of the public relations and events department at Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR, told Trend.

“CIC, the joint venture of SOCAR and IBM, coordinates SOCAR’s digital transformation project not only in the company, but also in its certain subsidiaries and structures. In line with the action plan, in the first years of its activity, CIC was planned to focus on managing SOCAR’s digital transformation. Next year, it is planned to expand the company’s activity in the market and beyond SOCAR as well,” he said.

Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR and IBM established Caspian Innovation Center LLC joint venture in 2018.

The joint venture was created for the purpose of building and operating a competitive analytics and delivery center to provide IT, business transformation and business consulting services in Azerbaijan, the Caspian Region and other countries.

IBM is actively participating in the digital transformation agenda in Azerbaijan in such areas as government services, financial sector and oil and gas.

Earlier, Bahadur Ibrahimov, Managing Partner, IBM Caspian told Trend that the Caspian Innovation Center LLC is expected to provide services also to other oil and gas companies in the future.

“In the future, the center is expected to provide its services also to other Oil & Gas industry companies and also across sectors, both in Azerbaijan and in the Caspian region. IBM Caspian, based in Baku, is the main contact point for any potential clients interested in the services provided by CIC,” he noted.

He said that CIC is set to become a competency center combining SOCAR’s oil domain and engineering skills and IBM's technology and research capabilities.
