Azerbaijani Ministry of Energy, together with the relevant state structures, has determined the land plots for production of renewable energy, Zaur Mammadov, head of the Office of the Azerbaijani Ministry of Energy, told Trend.
Mammadov was commenting on the ongoing projects related to the alternative energy sources.
“There are eight priority sites in total, and they are mainly located around Baku city, as well as in Absheron and Khizi districts,” the head of the office added.
"Memorandums have been signed with the companies interested in this sphere,” Mammadov said. “The private investors reviewed these sites and relevant proposals have already been received from them."
The head of the office stressed that the main goal of expanding renewable energy sources is to stimulate their use, create a favorable investment climate and support private entrepreneurship.
"In accordance with the Azerbaijani president’s decree N1209 dated May 29, 2019 "On accelerating reforms in the energy sector of the Republic of Azerbaijan", the Azerbaijani Ministry of Energy was instructed to take measures to promote the use of renewable energy sources, create a favorable investment climate and support the activity of private entrepreneurship, as well as develop Azerbaijan’s draft law on the use of renewable energy sources in electricity production,” Mammadov said.
The head of the office added that the Azerbaijani president’s order N1673 dated December 5, 2019 "On measures for the implementation of pilot projects in the field of the use of renewable energy sources" was adopted to encourage the use of renewable energy sources and attract private investments in this sector.
"A commission was created within the order to implement the pilot projects for the construction of renewable energy power plants including wind and solar power plants and coordinate their implementation,” Mammadov added. “The measures envisaged by the order are being taken and the working groups have been created in the relevant areas."
An alternative energy source is a renewable resource. It replaces traditional energy sources operating on oil, natural gas and coal, which, when burned, emit carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, contributes to an increase in the greenhouse effect and global warming.
The reason for the search for alternative energy sources is the need to receive it from the energy of renewable or practically inexhaustible natural resources and phenomena. Environmental friendliness and efficiency can also be taken into account.
