Kazakhstan’s Embamunaygas oil and gas company (EMG) has drilled five horizontal wells in 2019, four of which are currently used and one is being tested, Trend reports with reference to Embamunaygas.
According to EMG, the majority of the company’s oil fields are at the latter stage of development and thus, EMG uses modern approaches and technologies to reach the remaining oil assets. One of these technologies is drilling of horizontal wells.
According to the company’s Chairman of the Board Anuar Zhaksybekov, as a result of the implemented work, it was detected that the productivity index of the horizontal well significantly exceeds that of a vertical one.
“In the future, EMG is planning to drill horizontal wells at high viscosity formations that are 300 meters deep and to annually increase the overall number horizontal wells,” Zhaksybekov said.
The company also notes that a number of oil and gas companies in Kazakhstan use horizontal wells; however, their share is very insignificant compared to vertical wells.
Embamunaygas JSC is a subsidiary of KazMunayGas Exploration Production JSC. The main activities of the company: geological exploration, development of oil and gas fields; oil and gas production; oil and gas treatment.
