BAKU, Azerbaijan, Apr.29

By Nargiz Sadikhova – Trend:

Oil and gas condensate production of Kazakhstan’s KazMunayGas oil and gas national company (KMG) amounted to 5.9 million tons (489,000 barrels a day) in 1Q2020, which is almost unchanged year-on-year, Trend reports with reference to the KMG’s report.

The report said that natural and associated gas production increased by 4 percent year-on-year to 2.2 billion cubic meters.

KMG's share in oil production, and natural and associated gas production at country’s mega projects (Tengiz, Kashagan, and Karachaganak fields) amounted to 2.1 million tons (191,000 barrels a day) of oil and 1.5 billion cubic meters of gas, having increased by 4.6 percent and 5.9 percent year-on-year, respectively.

KMG’s share in oil and gas production at Tengiz increased by 0.9 percent year-on -year and amounted to 1.5 million tons (135,000 barrels a day) and 841 million cubic meters, respectively.

“The global pandemic did not affect operations at Tengiz in the first quarter of 2020, but several employees of Tengizchevroil’s (TCO) contractor were infected with COVID-19 in mid-April. To avoid further personnel infection, TCO has developed a safety plan for Tengiz that considers construction postponement at base production units, gradual suspension of non-critical work related to the Future Growth Project and a decrease of the number of personnel in the Tengiz field,” KMG said.

KMG's share in oil production at Kashagan increased by 23 percent year-on -year to 365,000 tons (32,000 barrels a day). Natural and associated gas production increased by 25.2 percent year-on-year and amounted to 219 million cubic meters.

“The growth of oil and gas production is attributable to higher gas injection given the transfer of two wells to the injection fund, as well as the improvement of the utilization ratio at the production facilities. In the first quarter of 2020, the average gross daily production at Kashagan amounted to 384,000 billion cubic meters,” the report said.

In turn, KMG’s share in oil production at Karachaganak increased by 5.2 percent year-on-year and amounted to 285,000 tons (25,000 barrels a day), whereas, gas production amounted to 538 million cubic meters, which is more by 8.1 percent year-on- year.

“The growth of oil and gas production is associated with stable gas acceptance by Orenburg Gas Processing Plant and the planned preventive maintenance of the facilities of the Karachaganak Processing Complex (KPC) and gas-processing units (Unit 2 and Unit 3) in September and October 2019,” the report said.

Additionally, oil and gas production at KMG-operated assets decreased by 2.8 percent year-on-year and amounted to 3.7 million tons (298,000 barrels a day) and 663 million cubic meters, respectively.

“The decrease in production volumes at KMG-operated assets was mainly due to the natural decline in production levels at JV Kazgermunai LLP and JSC PetroKazakhstan Inc. by 28.4 percent and 22.3 percent, respectively, in line with the production plan,” the report said.

KazMunayGas National Company (KMG) is Kazakhstan's operator for exploration, production, refining and transportation of hydrocarbons, representing the state interests in the oil and gas industry of Kazakhstan.
