St. Korea participates in implementation of projects for disposal of household waste in Uzbekistan

Uzbekistan and South Korean “Sejin G&E Co. Ltd." implemented projects worth $989,000 on the production of electricity due to the processing of exhaust gases generated at the Okhangaron and Maidontol landfills of the Tashkent region, Trend reports citing Dunyo information agency.

In total, together with foreign investors and international financial institutions, Uzbekistan has implemented projects worth $364 million in the field of solid waste management, infrastructure development, landfill optimization, construction of reloading stations, and waste processing facilities.

The mentioned projects were discussed at a joint meeting of the committees of the upper house of parliament on agrarian, water management issues and ecology and on the development of the Aral Sea region.

In addition, it was emphasized at the meeting that the necessary infrastructure has been created in all regions of Uzbekistan for the implementation of work related to waste. In particular, in the field of sanitary cleaning, the activities of 13 state unitary enterprises Toza hudud and their 174 branches, Makhsustrans, and 101 private enterprises have been established.

To date, the coverage of the provision of sanitary services in the regions of Uzbekistan amounts to 71 percent.

It was also noted that along with the work performed, certain problems have aroused. In particular, in cases of household waste and construction waste into unallocated places, the number of offenses during 9M2020 amounted to 20,605, which increased by 100 percent compared to last year.
